An efficient method is presented for simulating spin polarization and transport through zigzag-edge graphene nanoribbons in the presence of transverse fields. The approach is used to examine two graphene nanoribbon spintronic devices. One device operates as a spin filter whle the other operates as a spin field-effect transistor without requiring spin-polarized contacts. (c) 2008 American Institute of Physics.
