We investigated the effect of 4-tert-butylpyridine (TBP) on the quasi-Fermi level (QFL) of dye-sensitized TiO2 films by using a dye-sensitized solar cell (DSC) with three electrodes. The QFL of the TiO2 films increased with increasing TBP concentration, which proves that the TBP-induced increase in open-circuit voltage of the DSC is due to a shift of the QFL to a higher potential. The shifted QFL by TBP at short circuit is demonstrated for the first time which is important information to research additives affecting J(SC) in DSCs. (C) 2011 The Japan Society of Applied Physics
