Oxidation is one of the fundamental transformations in organic synthesis. The selective oxidation of inert substrates is interesting and important. In this review, the transitionmetal-catalyzed oxidation of methylarenes is discussed. Benzaldehyde, benzoic acid, benzyl alcohol, etc., were produced as the target products.
