Experimental and numerical investigations of magnetically induced localization of ferrofluid and its subsequent dispersion are performed in a forced flow. The ferrofluid accumulation behaves as a solid obstacle in the flow as the competing magnetic and fluid shear forces give rise to a rigidly bound core region followed by a washaway region at its wake. Results of the analysis provide meaningful information on ferrofluid transport for various magnetic drug targeting applications. (c) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
