A simple biomolecule-assisted hydrothermal approach was developed to synthesize antimony sulfide nanowires. The strategy presented here is the application of L-cysteine, acting not as complexing agent but also as sulfur source. The experimental results indicate that the reaction temperature is of importance for obtaining pure antimony sulfide. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
