Hydrophilic submicron magnetic colloids were prepared via layer-by-layer encapsulation of oil in water (o/w) magnetic emulsions. The encapsulation explored in this work is based on sequential adsorption of oppositely charged polyelectrolytes onto magnetic emulsion. The functionalization was induced by the final polyelectrolyte layer. The elaborated magnetic particles were evaluated in the specific capture of nucleic acids. (c) 2005 Published by Elsevier B.V.
