The acute toxicity of savory (Satureja hortensis) extracts obtained with supercritical CO2 and by traditional extraction techniques was tested on larvae of Musca domestica, Spodoptera littoralis, Culex quinquefasciatus and Leptinotarsa decemlineata and on adults of M. domestica, and the composition of volatile compounds in the extracts was determined. The efficiency of extract obtained with supercritical CO2 at 12 MPa and 50 degrees C was comparable with that of hydrodistillate and higher than the efficiency of other extracts, while its extraction yield was by 73% higher than the yield of hydrodistillate.
