Macroporous gold electrodes are used in amperometric measurements as they provide a high internal surface area. Their cavities allow the sequential immobilisation of monolayers of redox mediator, coenzyme and dehydrogenase, leading to a well-defined electroactive multilayer. The highly ordered arrangement of the pores makes it possible to fine-tune the overall activity of the device. (c) 2004 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
