Recent discovery of Liquid crystals with quasicrystalline symmetry (liquid quasicrystals), is reviewed. These liquid quasicrystals were created by self-organised packing of supramolecular micelles, analogous to the way by which normal quasicrystals are formed from atoms in metal alloys. This opens the way to obtaining self-assembled photonic band gap quasicrystals, and has important implications for the study of both quasicrystals and supramolecular self-assembly.
