The plant Golgi apparatus is composed of many separate stacks of cisternae which are often associated with the endoplasmic reticulum and which in many cell types are motile. In this review, we discuss the latest data on the molecular regulation of Golgi function. The concept of the Golgi as a distinct organelle is challenged and the possibility of a continuum between the endoplasmic reticulum and Golgi is proposed. (C) 2005 Elsevier B.V All rights reserved.
