A novel and efficient C-C bond-formation method was developed: the cross-dehydrogenative coupling (CDC) reaction catalyzed by copper bromide in the presence of an oxidizing reagent, tBuOOH. The CDC reaction provides a simple and efficient catalytic method to construct beta-amino diesters and beta-dicyano amines by a combination of two different sp(3) C-H bonds followed by C-C bond formation.
