Because radiographic interpretation of distal radius fractures has such a profound impact on the type of treatment and clinical outcome, accurate assessment of standard radiographs is essential for appropriate management. Subtle abnormalities of radiographic landmarks can provide critical information for recognition of the pattern and extent of injury but often may be unrecognized simply because the physician is not trained to recognize these features. The 10 degrees lateral projection and assessment of parameters such as the teardrop angle, anteroposterior distance, and other landmarks and parameters are essential for the evaluation and treatment of these injuries. The purpose of this paper is to provide specific guidelines for improved interpretation of X-rays in patients with distal radius fractures.
