The interfacial impedance of solid electrodes deviates from that of an ideal capacitor even in the complete absence of Faradaic reactions; the deviation is usually larger on rough electrodes than on smooth ones. The origin of this deviation is discussed; the roles of atomic scale roughness and of the adsorption processes are analyzed. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
