The one-pot reaction of K2PtCl4 and various 2-arylpyridines, HC<^>N, in a 3:1 (v/v) mixture of 2-ethoxyethanol and H2O at 80 degrees C for 16 h affords cyclometalated platinum complexes, Pt(C<^>N)(HC<^>N)(Cl), in high yield. These have been fully characterized and, in one case, the X-ray structure has been determined. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
