A tetrahedrally coordinated cobalt(II) phosphonate, CO(O3PCH2CH2NH2), has been synthesized using hydrothermal techniques. X-ray diffraction indicates that this material is a three-dimensional open framework with rings aligned along a single axis forming infinite one-dimensional channels. The framework decomposes just above 400 degrees C. Magnetic susceptibility data are consistent with weak antiferromagnetic ordering at low temperatures. (c) 2005 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
