Soccharomyces boulardii is a nonpathogenic yeast widely prescribed ill many countries of the world and used in adults and children as a biotherapeutic agent. Controlled clinical trials have demonstrated the efficacy of S boulardii for preventing or treating several intestinal disorders. This article focuses oil the clinical applications of the administration of lyophilized S boulardii and explains its beneficial effects on the basis of basic experimental studies.
