A novel dimiric Pb-II complex containing two different bipyridine ligands, [Pb-2(2,2'-bi(PY))(2)(mu-4,4'-bipy)(NO3)(4)] (2,2'-bipy = 2,2'-bipyridine and 4,4'-bipy = 4,4'-bipyridine), has been synthesized and characterized. The single-crystal X-ray data shows the coordination number in two Pb-II ions is six with stereo-chemically active electron lone pairs, and the coordination sphere is hemidirected. There are three weak Pb-O interactions that produce two-dimensional polymer with holodirected geometry. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
