An enantiopure ligand H2L [Schiff base prepared from (S)-(+)-2-phenylglycinol and 2-hydroxy-5-nitrobenzaldehyde] reacts with CUC1(2)(.)2H(2)O to yield a chiral copper complex [Cu(HL)Cl] (1) that forms right-handed supramolecular helices via O-(HCl)-Cl-...-Cu hydrogen bonds.
