Nd-Fe-B Thin films with perpendicular magnetic anisotropy have been successfully prepared onto a W underlayer with (110) orientation. The crystal growing mechanism has been ascribed as tetragonal Nd2Fe14B (001) plane epitaxial growth onto a W (110) plane. The crystal structure of the Nd-Fe-B films sensitively depended on the crystal orientation and crystallinity of the underlayer. The Nd-Fe-B film with perpendicular coercivity of 9.8 kOe and squareness ratio of 1.0 and coercive squareness of 0.63 and nucleation field of -5.0 kOe has been prepared.
