The densities of binary mixtures formed by 1,2-propanediol carbonate with o-xylene, or m-xylene, or p-xylene were measured in the temperature range of (293.15 to 353.15) K and atmospheric pressure using a vibrating-tube densimeter. The excess molar volumes V-m(E), partial molar volumes and excess partial molar volumes of two components calculated from the density data provide the temperature dependence. The V-m(E) results were correlated using the fourth-order Redlich-Kister equation, with the maximum likelihood principle being applied for the determination of the adjustable parameters. It was found that the V-m(E) in these systems studied increases with rising temperature. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
