An alternate method for the synthesis of a carbon dioxide (CO2) capture catalytic/sorbent, Li4SiO4, has been developed. This method consists in mixing two precursors in a solid suspension, one being incorporated in an aqueous solution (LiNO3) and the other in a suspended phase NOD. Thermodynamic analysis and characterization results (X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM) and thermo-gravimetric (TGA) reactor techniques suggest a significant effect on the particle size towards the formation of desired phase Li4SiO4. TGA-CO2 sorption conversions reported in this work resulted in higher conversion (98%) and reaction rate than reported up to date (83%). Furthermore, lower synthesis temperatures (900 degrees C) are achieved through this alternate synthesis than the actual method of solid solution (1000 degrees C). Only slight sintering problems were encountered. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
