We show the synthetic procedure of colored magnetic films composed of Prussian blue analog-based magnets and their magneto-optical effects in the visible region. Magnetic thin films of M-3(II)[Cr-III(CN)(6)](2) center dot zH(2)O (M = Co, Ni, Cu) are prepared on transparent Nafion membrane by an ion-exchange process and these films exhibit Faraday effect due to d-d transition of M-II. The film-type of ((FexCr1-xII)-Cr-I)(3)[C-III(CN)(6)](2) center dot 15H(2)O is electrochemically prepared by reducing aqueous solutions containing three compounds of K-3[Cr(CN)(6)], CrCl3, and FCCl3. These fifins display magnetization-induced second harmonic generation below Curie temperature. (c) 2005 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
