In this paper we examine variants of the KdV-Burger equation and the K(n, n)-Burger equation. Both compact and noncompact structures are treated for these models. The tanh method is employed as a vehicle to achieve this goal. Three different physical structures are emphasized: compactons, solitary patterns and blow-up solutions. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V.
