In this paper, we present a metallodielectric designed by the finite difference time domain (FDTD) method and fabricated with a resin-based rapid prototyping machine. The dielectric was made with seven layers of parallel periodic copper wires embedded in resin. The different simulation results depending oil alignment between the electric field vector and metal wire were observed. One was an increase in effective permittivity epsilon(eff) with increasing volume percent of metal up to 69.4% observed for a vertically incident electromagnetic (EM) wave with the electric field vertical to the direction of wires; the other was a negative epsilon(eff) for the electric field parallel to the direction of wires, In addition, the enhancement of the epsilon(eff) of the metallodielectric was experimentally verified using broadband microstrip measurements in which the metallodielectric plays the role of a substrate for a microstrip line.
