The elastic scattering cross section of (106)cd(alpha, alpha)Cd-106 has been measured with high accuracy at energies of E-c.m. approximate to 15.5, 17, and 19 MeV. The optical potential for the system Cd-106 circle times alpha has been derived at energies above and below the Coulomb barrier. Predictions for the (106)cd(alpha,gamma)Sn-110 capture cross section at astrophysically relevant energies are presented and compared to the experimental data measured recently.
