CdSe/ZnS core/shell quantum dots (QDs) were capped with specially designed calix[4]arene containing selenium (Calix [4]-Se) through supramolecular interaction, which provided colloidal stability as well as surface passivation. The quantum yield of calixarene capped QDs was about 45% at room temperature which was by far higher than that of thiol-modified CdSe/ZnS (core-shell) type of QDs. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V.
