The class of electromagnetic media characterized by negative permittivity and permeability values, recently of great interest, is generalized under the label negative-definite (ND) media. Assuming no losses and no dispersion as first assumptions, relations between the Poynting vector and wave vector are derived for isotropic, b-isotropic, gyrotropic, and uniaxially chiral special cases of ND media.
