A diastereoselective trifluoromethylation of chiral alpha-keto esters derived from isosorbide with TMSCF3 in the presence of a Lewis-base catalyst gave the corresponding trifluoromethylated alpha-hydroxy esters in good yields with moderate to high diastereomeric excesses.
