Large-scale well-crystalline InS nanowires have been successfully prepared for the first time from a metallic indium precursor by a simple solvothermal route without using any template or catalyst. From X-ray diffraction and energy-dispersive X-ray analysis studies, stability of InS is suggested to be within the temperature range of 180-265 degrees C. Both the diameter and the yield of nanowires show a proportional increment with temperature.
