Two novel morpholine-containing silicon (IV) phthalocyanines, namely bis (2-morpholine) ethoxy phthalocyaninatosilicon (2) and bis (2-(N-methyl-morpholine)) ethoxy phthalocyaninatosilicon diiodide (3), have been prepared. The complexations of these two compounds with three serum proteins including the bovine serum albumin, human serum albumin, and transferrin have also been investigated. The non-aggregated compound 3 exhibits a high photodynamic activity towards B16 melanoma tumour cells with an IC50 value of 0.30 mu M. (C) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
