Articular sporotrichosis, a chronic granulomatous fungal infection, is a rare entity but when present may lead to significant joint destruction. Severe knee arthrosis due to sporottichal arthritis has traditionally been treated with arthrodesis. Total knee arthroplasty in the presence of sporotrichal arthritis has been treated with long-term suppressive antifungal agents or I-stage exchange total knee arthroplasty. We present a case in which primary total knee arthroplasty in the presence of sporotrichal arthritis resulted in good functional outcome at 2.5 years of follow-up. (C) 2006 Elsevier B.V.
