We have fabricated flexible microcavity organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with an organic distributed Bragg reflector (DBR) and typical electroluminescent (EL) materials, 8-hydroxyquinoline aluminum (Alq(3)). Their performance was compared with that of conventional EL diodes. A sharply directed emission with a viewing-angle-dependent-emission intensity was observed when operated under dc drive voltages. Moreover, uniform emission from the entire active region of the microcavity EL diodes was observable, even when the device was largely bent.
