To enhance the absorption in the visible region for supported TiO2, Fe doped TiO2 coatings have been prepared in one step by a codeposition process of metal organic chemical vapor deposition method. The results of XANES indicate that iron exists as isolated octahedrally coordinated Fe3+ ions substituting Ti4+ in the TiO2 lattice. EDX reveals that iron has a uniform distribution within Fe-TiO2 coatings. U-V-Vis diffuse reflectance spectra show a slight shift to longer wavelengths and an enhancement of the absorption in the visible region (> 400 nm) for the Fe doped TiO2 coatings, compared to the non-doped sample. The Fe doped TiO2 samples exhibited good photocatalytic activities for the degradation of methyl orange under visible light irradiation. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
