The photochromism of nitrate-containing nickel-aluminum layered double hydroxides (NiAl-NO3-LDHs) has been studied. Powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD), FTIR, UV/Vis, XPS, ESR, EXAFS, and elemental analysis were used to investigate the structure, composition, and photochromic behavior of NiAl-NO3-LDHs. A possible photochromic mechanism in NiAl-NO3-LDHs has been proposed. ((c) Wiley-VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. KGaA, 69451 Weinheim, Germany, 2006).
