The crystal structure of [Cd(tsac)(2)(bzim)(2)]center dot CH3OH (tsac, anion of thiosaccharine; bzim, benzimidazole) has been determined by single crystal X-ray diffractometry. It crystallizes in the triclinic space group P (1) over bar with Z = 2. The Cd(II) cation is in a distorted tetrahedral environment coordinated to two thiosaccharinate anions [Cd-S bond lengths of 2.5117(6) and 2.5598(6) angstrom] and two benzimidazole molecules [Cd-N lengths of 2.235(2) and 2.256(2) angstrom]. The FTIR spectrum of the complex is also recorded and briefly discussed. Some comparisons with related complexes are made. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
