Ultrafine polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP)/tris(8-quinolinolato) aluminum (Alq3) hybrid fibers were prepared by electrospirming PVP/Alq3 solutions in solvent mixtures of ethanol /chloroform. Hybrid polymer fibers with smooth surface were obtained using the solutions in which Alq3's concentration was from 0.5 to 2.0 (wt.%) and the average diameter of the smallest PVP/Alq3 fibers was 481 nm. The fluorescence peak position of PVP/Alq3 fibers was the same as that of Alq3 in solutions. The morphology of fibers has been characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and fluorescence microscopy. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
