One-pot synthesis of 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-(thio)ones using strontium(II) nitrate as a catalyst

A simple, efficient method for the one-pot Biginelli condensation reaction of aldehydes, ethyl acetoacetate and urea or thiourea employing strontium(II) nitrate as a novel catalyst is described in good yields. The catalyst exhibited remarkable reactivity. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
