The present work reports the effect of erodent properties on slurry erosion. Experiments have been performed in a pot tester to evaluate the wear of two ductile materials namely, AA6063 and AISI 304L steel. Solid-liquid mixtures of similar particle sizes of three different natural erodents namely, quartz, alumina and silicon carbide have been used to evaluate the mass loss of the two target materials at different orientation angles. Shape factor for each erodent is determined which show decreasing value for increase in angularity of the particle. It is observed that the wear increases with decrease in the shape factor and increase in the density. The surface morphology shows deep craters and higher value of average surface roughness for angular particles, compared to the blocky shape particles. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
