This paper presents a method to evaluate the theoretical set of misorientation angle and axis between variants of hexagonal close-packed (hcp) product transforming from a parent body-centered cubic crystal obeying the Burgers orientation relationship. The distinct covariants of hcp crystal and the probability of random hcp orientations coinciding with the covariant have been arrived at. (c) 2006 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd.
