High-resolution photoabsorption spectra of CH(3)Cl and CH(3)I are reported in the energy range 3.9-10.8 eV (320-115 nm). Several features are observed for the first time in the CH(3)Cl spectrum and a number of new assignments are proposed. For both molecules, the present work provides the most reliable absolute cross-sections yet reported at energies above the dissociative A band transition. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
