Two methods for estimating digestion rate were evaluated and the digestion rate to disappearance was estimated to be 0.30 h(-1) for herring Clupea harengus feeding on capelin Mallotus villosus larvae. Due to high individual variability in feeding rates in schooling fish species, groups should be fed in separate tanks and stomach contents collected from each group at a predetermined time.
