Carbon sheet electrodes were developed for electrosorption desalination and their capacitance and ion removal rate were evaluated by cyclic voltammetry and electrosorption desalination assay, respectively. The carbon sheet electrode was prepared by mixing carbon powder, polytetrafluoroethylene binder, and conductive carbon black. Among the tested, the one with the composition of carbon powder: binder: conductive carbon black = 84 : 4 : 12 showed the largest capacity and the best deionization. When the electrode was activated in 1 M KOH solution at 100 degrees C for one hour, its deionization capacitance and ion removal rate improved significantly.
