This paper gives a short review of different catalytic processes for the conversion of terpenes, triglycerides and carbohydrates to valuable chemicals and polymers. Attention is focussed on the new catalytic routes starting from platform molecules derived from renewables and different from the traditional chemical synthesis routes starting from fossil fuels. Also, stress is laid on the green character of these new processes and on the possibility to conduct one-pot process whenever possible. (c) 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
