Multiple fluorescent PET (photoinduced electron transfer) sensors of predictively known analyte binding constants are run in parallel to give a large quasilinear dynamic range. The specific case of proton analytes is demonstrated with four near-optimal sensors to produce a range of ca. 9 pH units. Thus, sets of molecular sensors can be persuaded to respond like ion selective electrodes while maintaining the advantages of nanosize and imaging ability.
