Four difunctional benzoxazine monomers bis(4-benzyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3-benzoxazinyl) isopropane (BA-BZA), bis(4-ciclohexyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3 benzoxazinyl) isopropane (BA-CHA), bis(4-benzyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3-benzoxazinyl) methane (BF-BZA), bis(4-ciclohexyl-3,4-dihydro-2H-1,3-benzoxazinyl) methane (BF-CHA) were synthesized from a bisphenol (bisphenol A (BA) or bisphenol F (BF)), an amine (benzylamine (BZA) or cyclohexylamine (CHA) and formaldehyde. The benzoxazine monomers were characterized by Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry, proton nuclear magnetic resonance (H-1 NMR), gel permeation chromatography (GPC) and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). The thermal polymerization process of benzoxazine monomers was followed by GPC, FTIR Spectrometry and dielectric thermal analysis (DETA). The glass transition temperatures of polybenzoxazine resins were given by dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) carried out for the first time in a material pocket. (C) 2006 Elsevier Ltd.
