An alternating current electroluminescent display has been direct written onto a flexible plastic substrate. A hybrid layer of poly(2-methoxy,5(2-ethylhexyloxy)-p-phenylene vinylene) (MEH-PPV) and CdSe quantum dots (QDs) were used to convert the light emitted by electroluminescent ZnS phosphor into red light. The emission wavelength of the display is found to be directly related to the emission of CdSe quantum dots. The integration of QDs into thin film electroluminescent (TFEL) displays has the potential to enhance its color spectrum. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
