The spinet-type oxynitride of zinc and titanium (ZnxTiOyNz) reduces H+ to H-2 and oxidizes H2O to O-2 in the presence of a sacrificial electron donor and acceptor under visible light irradiation (lambda > 420nm). ZnxTiOyNz is a d(0)-d(10) complex oxynitride photocatalyst that has the potential to be active for water splitting under visible light.
