Despite the enormous progress made during recent decades in the treatment of long-bone fractures, fracture heating is still haunted by complications and above all non-unions. Non-unions represent a particular challenge, and the difficulties surrounding their management are frequently underestimated. Knowledge of the epidemiology of tong-bone non-union can assist the treating surgeon in the application of the optimum fracture treatment. (c) 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
