A novel dimeric polyoxotungstate, [Cu(2,2'-bpy)(3)](4)H-2[Cu(H2O)(4)(As2W18O62)(2)] (2,2'-bpy=2,2'-bipyridine) (1), has been synthesized hydrothernially and characterized by elemental analysis, IR, ESR, TG-DTA and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The title compound represents the first example of dimeric arsenotungstate based on Dawson-type polyanions, in which two As-2 W18O626- blocks are linked by one Cu(H2O)(2+)(4) fragment via O-t-Cu-O-1, bridge.
