The synthesis and characterization of amorphous N-incorporated carbon materials, with ordered mesoporous structure, using mesoporous aluminosilicate oxynitride (OMASON) as a solid template for the first time is reported. The use of furfuryl alcohol (FA) as carbon precursor generates the N-incorporated mesoporous carbon material with nitrogen contents of similar to 1.4-3.1 wt %. The nitrogen-containing groups existing in the OMASON template participate in the reactions during the carbonization process of polymerized FA/template composite, resulting in the formation of nitrogen-containing groups in the resulting mesoporous N-incorporated carbon materials. The nitrogen contents of the obtainable mesoporous carbon materials evidently decrease with increasing carbonization temperatures from 700 to 900 degrees C. Oppositely, the textural properties of mesoporous N-incorporated carbon materials are almost independent of the carbonization temperatures. All N-incorporated mesoporous carbon material have a high specific surface area (similar to 1600 m(2)/g) and high mesopore volume (similar to 1.6 cm(3)/g) and a uniform mesopore size distribution. And the morphologies of the N-incorporated mesoporous carbon materials also derive from that of the OMASON template.
